Mixed Martial Arts is not famous in Pakistan like cricket or hockey. It is still in its developing phase. Majority of the population not even know what MMA is. So choosing a career as an MMA fighter in a cricket crazy nation is itself a daring act. But somehow Ahmed Mujtaba has done it and pulling it off greatly.
Ahmed Mujtaba or should we say the Wolverine due to his unmistaken resemblance with the X-Men beloved character has made his MMA debut back in 2013. Since then he has earned 6 consecutive victories which includes the UGB MMA Featherweight Title early last year. All of these fights have been finished by using submission and TKO. In his latest fight, he defeated his opponent Benedict Ang through unanimous decision.
Now, he is gearing up for his next match tomorrow against Keanu Subba at Stadium Negara, Kuala Lumpur. Subba holds a record of 4-2 and an exceptional striker. In his last fight, he defeated Pakistani MMA fighter Waqar Umer at ONE: UNBREAKABLE WARRIORS.
But despite of all this talent and skills, Ahmed Mujtaba is not getting adequate support from Pakistani sports authorities. This can prove a real hurdle in his success. Our authorities should provide equal assistance to all sports regardless of their popularity.
