Ben Stokes has become the most expensive player of IPL 2017. However no one took Irfan and Ishant.
The auction for IPL 2017 was held in Bengaluru on this Monday. Some of the unknown Indian domestic players also got their debut in the league.
In IPL history, Ben Stokes has become the most expensive foreign player. He was auctioned at an astonishing figure of Rs. 14.5 crore and the team was Rising Pune Supergiants. The auction occurred at Bengaluru on Monday. Few of unknown Indian domestic players also started their IPL journey whereas few big names such as Imran Tahir, Irfan Pathan and Ishant Sharma were not taken by anyone. On the other hand, Royal Challengers Banglore bagged Tymal Mills for Rs. 12 crore.
The eight franchises have collectively spent Rs. 91.15 crore at the auction and a total of 66 players were bought from 350 plus players that were included at the auction. The franchises were clearly in favor of Indian players as out of 66 39 were Indians and 27 were foreign players.
A pleasant surprise was a bid of Rs 4 crore (USD 600,000) for young Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan Arman and he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad. Muhaamad Nabi an all-rounder with spin-bowling style was bought by SRH as well. Both of these players are first Afghan players to make their debut in the expensive league. Another player to be a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad was pacer Muhammad Siraj at Rs 2.6 crore bid.
Senior test players such as Ishant Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara could not make into the league. Both remained unsold at their base price of Rs 2 crore and Rs 50 lakh respectively. Irfan Pathan also had no takers at his base price of Rs 50 lakh.
